When Instagram was on the rise for social media marketing they changed how websites could function because of one thing: they only allowed one link in your bio.
Want to share your new blog article? You have to change your link.
Want to promote a new campaign? You have to change your link.
Want people to just go to your website? You have to change your link.
There were people who had to change their links for every single post they had on Instagram!
With this tedious process, a market popped up: link directories. The most famous is LinkTree (which is still top of the market).
But the thing is, LinkTree wasn’t doing anything that a website couldn’t already do. Now, if you didn’t have a website, LinkTree was a perfect solution…but if you did, LinkTree was yet another tool you needed to manage your social media.
Now we’re in a world where you need a website, you need a link directory, you need landing pages, and, as a creator or entrepreneur, managing this all on your own is a giant headache.
The thing is, you don’t need all of these things. You can actually just have one and simplify the entire thing.
This is the benefit of a microsite. A microsite is a single-page website that includes a link directory, any additional information you want to include, and then leaves you with the option to grow your website in the future.
Recently, I did this with Iced Kitchen (a cookie decorating creator side passion I have). This microsite allows me to have a single page to send people from, whether it be Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, or TikTok, in addition to allowing me the possibility to grow to a fuller website in the future.
A microsite is a perfect starting place for any creator, small business, or entrepreneur while allowing you space to grow in the future without the pain of having to move to an entirely new platform.
You still have all your regular marketing capabilities with a microsite, as you would on a full website, but can have the simplicity of a link directory.
What do you think of a microsite? Do you see the benefit?
